Why use two methods to teach algebra? Kids learn differently. Some are auditory learners, others are visual, and many are kinesthetic learners. Algebra8 uses bins of colorful blocks called Algeblocks and custom workbooks to allow students to touch, manipulate and visualize the math concept. The hands-on approach makes Algebra more understandable for the kinesthetic learners and also others. Algebra is less abstract using Algebra8. This visual and kinisthetic approach reaches the majority of students.
Math is sequential. Algebra comes first, then Geometry, then Algebra II, etc. If students do not take Algebra in 8th grade, they usually don't take calculus until college.
The students like the program. They work with partners and see results visually instead of moving numbers on paper. Teachers have found math scores improving.
Algebra8 is beginning to gain attention nationwide as schools are looking for innovative ways to improve math participation and understanding.
