The third born is the idea person. This birth order likes to figure things out, invent things and challenge obstacles.
TeasingThe third born personality is formed in reaction to teasing by the second born. Since there is no way to counter the teasing, the third born decides to ignore it. In fact, mother might have suggested this strategy when she got tired of the third born complaints. The strategy worked. When the second born got no reaction, the teasing stopped. Fear: The EnemyThe third born made this a life strategy. He (or she) is not going to let anything bother him. In order to be impervious to provocation, the third born has to be strong. And, in order to be strong, the third born has to turn off fear. For the third born, fear became an enemy to overcome or it would overcome him. Fearless or CautiousThe third born who overcomes fear becomes fearless. He has to prove to himself and others that he is not afraid of anything. This fearless third born has an older second born sibling of the same sex. He has an older brother. She has an older sister. The third born who is overcome by fear becomes cautious. This third born puts safety first. This cautious third born has an older second born sibling of the opposite sex. He has an older sister. She has an older brother. Empathy For VictimsThe third born feels compassion for victims. He pays more attention to their needs than his own. He will give them what they need, go with them through difficult places and be their strength in their weakness. At times he laments that no one considers his needs. No Defense SystemChoosing to ignore things, the third born never developed a defense system. To be comfortable without a defense system, the third born developed a lateral thinking pattern that allowed him to avoid being cornered. By making comparisons the third born escaped being cornered, or so it appeared. When the third born is actually cornered, he might come out fighting. CreativeLateral thinking equips third borns to be creative. Comparing two ideas allows the third born to create a new idea. This makes the third born inventive, creative and innovative. Thirds Help PeopleThird borns are often found doing work to help people. They are social workers, trial defense attorneys, emergency medical personnel and sales people. Whatever they do, they go all-out for the victim.
