The Survey
5,300 students responded to the survey at 54 colleges and universities in Canada and U.S. Questions referred to plagiarism, downloading essays from the web, text messaging and crib notes in exams. Who came in at the top for cheating? MBA students. Students receiving their Master's in Business Administration took the biggest liberties with cheating.
Implications
Hmmm. Does this mean that when I hire someone to invest my retirement fund I can't trust them? How about the accountant that I hire? The head CEO of the local insurance company?
Honor Codes
Many colleges have honor codes but most do not. Business colleges are beginning to add courses on honesty, integrity and ethics. The statistics are embarassing. 56% admit to cheating and are quite open about it.
We are often shocked at the corruption in other countries. Are we soon becoming like them?
