It totally amazes me each time I read a news story on recess being eliminated that educators do not understand the value of breaks.
Children are active beings. They need to move. Some schools have experimented with allowing students to move as much as they want and found that students focus better. Isn't the concern about childhood obesity one of the major reasons that schools have removed soda and replaced with water?
If No Child Left Behind pressure is so great, perhaps we need to extend the school day. Can you imagine the outcry if teachers were not given a coffee break?
Europe is also concerned about obesity and recently completed a study. Read about the European Study on Obesity. Children need both good nutrition and exercise to fight illness and remain healthy.
