Junk Food Fix Is Strong

Results

The addiction to sugar and junk food seems to be so strong that students travel off campus to get their fix if not available in schools. Schools offer healthy hot lunch programs but students choose to buy Little Debbies off campus and return to class in the afternoon with no nutrition. Recess and P.E. time is being cut. Obesity is becoming a problem in schools.

Financial Implications

What removing junk food has caused is a loss in revenues for schools that used the vending machine funds to support yearbooks, student newspapers, and other activities. Students are still not eating well, consuming too much sugar, and skipping meals.

Who's Job Is It?

Is it the school's responsibility to make sure high school students eat properly? Or, is it the responsibility of the parents? Schools offer nutritional foods. Students are refusing to eat a balanced diet. This is perhaps an issue for parents to decide.
